I think a lot these terms are more generational (as in older) than regional. I am 60 and from NY. My parents and grandparents always called it supper, not dinner. Dinner was what you ate when you went out to a restaurant. Other "age related" words include parlor, pocket book, dungarees, cellar, etc.

I will add one to those; bathing suit and maybe beauty parlor.

I say cellar - and I'm not even middle-aged yet!
I also say bathing suit. What else would one call it? (Yah yah, I'm probably setting myself up good on that one.... but really, what else is it?)

How about davenport. My grandma uses this term all the time. It took me a few years to figure out what the hell what she was talking about.

I always say swimsuit.

Anyways, another regional term, but for older folks around here, is rubber binders instead of rubber bands.

About 20 years ago I had a married couple from PA that worked for me - they refered to a soft drink as a 'pop'. I've also heard the same term in SD. Here in NC it's a 'soda'.

hmmm, as far as dialect some stuff we say in the Bay compared to some of this stuff others have posted:

"basement" rather than "cellar." But many people don't have basements, and the equivalent area is the garage instead. Like a ground level garage-basement combo below the house...which is usually just called "the garage."
"corner store" rather than "bodega." If you want alcohol, "corner store" often turns into "liqour store." Gotta love living in a state where alcohol can be sold anywhere, rather than just in state run stores.
"swim suit" and "bathing suit" are pretty interchangable to me, i use both.

The only widely used regional slang i can think of for the Bay Area is "hella." It's a very versatile word. example:

"we got hella beer, and got hella wasted, as we watched hella stupid movies for hella long!"
"was it fun?"
