My fiance is Chinese, from Hunan. We live in Guangzhou and will most likely be here for quite some time, but would like to have a home back in the US as well (I'm a non-Asian American).

Although I was mostly raised in Boston, I spent a lot of my childhood in the Oregon high desert and loved it there, and then as an adult, I lived in Socal and spent a lot of time out in the Eastern Valley and over into Vegas. I've got friends who live in Arizona and New Mexico, and some in the Navajo Nation. The deserts and high deserts have always been my favorite regions, and she's enamored with them, too.

One of her concerns is whether or not there would be many other Chinese people around there; I'm curious, too. What Southwestern, desert/high desert cities have sizable Asian (specifically Chinese) communities and would be good places to consider moving to, keeping in mind that she would want there to be at least some Chinese community there?

Phoenix has a chinatown but it sucks. It might be the best you can get though.

I agree, Phoenix wins by default.

I guess a ranking would be

1)Phoenix
2)Las Vegas
3)Tucson

....

The desert is pretty much uninhabited, I just realized that Riverside or San Bernardino may apply but I don't really view them part of the desert southwest as they're in California.

I haven't spent much time in the desert cities so I just don't know, but my guess would be Phoenix by default as the largest metro. Come to think of it, a handful of my Chinese friends do live there presently.

Las Vegas has more to offer Asians than Phoenix does.

Vegas is the obvious choice, you have Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion and Southern California and the Bay Area just a weekend trip away... plus, it's Vegas. you could let family and friends stay at your place when they want to go to Vegas.

Las Vegas. The people who keep saying Phoenix must have never been here before. There is no Chinatown in Phoenix any longer. Spring Mountain from Rainbow to Valley View is Vegas' Asian corridor. There are tons of Asian restaurants, businesses, and grocery stores.

Nevada? I would like to recommend Albuquerque, but I never seen a sizable Asian community here like other cities; Ill have to say Nevada.
