Maybe it is because I have lived in a few states that border Jefferson City, maybe it is because of its awards for "most beautiful" and such it has won, but I think of it as a quintessential capital.
I think the winner is Pierre, SD. (Even though the OP remembered to put it on the list, ha ha)
My answer too. There are times I think Lexington is the capital.
It is weird that if people didn't know the capital of KY, they would guess Lexington... if I didn't know ANY better and had to pick a city the obvious choice would be Louisville. I could even MAYBE see people thinking it is Bowling Green over Lexington.... could definitely see people guessing it over Frankfort.
Not disagreeing or saying you guys are wrong... just found it interesting from my perspective.
I'm sort of a geography/cartography & demographics nut all rolled into one & learning the 50 state capital cities was one of my fun early learning tasks that I gave myself as a kid.
Nevertheless, at my now advanced age, I had to stop a sec in regard to naming the capital city of Kentucky here as my initial reaction was to say that "Lexington" was it's capital. I don't know why that is the case as I've even driven by the city on I-75 and it's nothing against Frankfort but for me personally it would thus have to be the "least remembered" state capital".
Maybe we should do a thread on favorite/least favorite state capitol buildings too. It would be a nice excuse for us to see some great pix.
I agree with Augusta, ME and Jefferson City, MO. Two capitals so forgettable that the OP forgot them.
