I am currently living in San Francisco, CA and I am looking to move out of the area.
About me :
I have lived in the San Francisco for about a decade. Before SF I lived for a couple of years in NY, prior to that I have lived in Seattle and Houston, each for a year, but primarily lived in San Francisco my entire life. I am really tired of living in cities- or atleast in such crowded communities. I am tired of paying more for a 500 sqft condo than most home prices in the US. I am burned out on the hustle and bustle and I am looking to buy a home in a community I can grow old in. I have friends in my community, but as I look at the majority of the people here as a whole- everyone is wrapped up in their own careers and the city is just overall a non-friendly place. I love California, but I am willing to move out of state as well.
I like active communities. I travel often for work, so I would prefer to be near an airport, however I would like to live in a mellow neighborhood. I am in my late 20s. I am over the nightlife scene, so that is really unimportant. However, I like to spend a lot of time outside, doing outdoor type activities, so I would prefer an active community. I also like to be near at least a handful of shops and restaurants, so living in the boonies wouldn't suit me. I also run my own company from home, so a work situation is not relevant.
Summary of what I am looking for :
-I'd prefer a quiet community, but would like to be at least an hour or so from a big city
-Friendly people
-Mild climate (I would prefer cool/cold weather over warm, but it's not too important)
-Stuff to do - shopping, restaurants, etc.
-Outdoor activities, preferably a beach, lake, or hiking trails
-Close-ish proximity to an airport (2 hours or less)
-Dog friendly communities are nice too, but not pertinent
Any suggestions? I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks in advance!
Sadly, the weather is the opposite from cold, but you could try Alpharetta, GA. It's a 1-2 hour drive to Atlanta and a bit farther from the airport. There's a nice mall called North Point Mall in the area. It's a much more quite community.
You could also try Schaumburg, IL. It's around an hour to Chicago by car or 30 mnts. by the Metra. It's not actually too quite, but more of a residential area. It becomes cold in the region, though.
