Lots of Midwestern cities, honestly. All of them have fun things to do beyond just exploring, and several have enough to fill a full day or two (St. Louis, Detroit, Twin Cities, Cleveland), but the only Midwestern city that is really a destination is Chicago.
But lots of cities in the region are fabulous for quality of life - the big three in Ohio, Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, both big ones in Missouri, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Fargo, and all the main ones in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Add Louisville since a chunk of its metro is in Indiana anyway.
I can't imagine living anywhere that isn't worth at least a visit.

You have to venture farther than the rest stops on the Turnpike.
