Beaches mean nothing to me. I would go to them even if I lived near one. I dislike humidity too.
I love mountains. Hiking in them, looking at them from a distance, skiing on them in winter. I rarely go to church these days but nothing makes me feel spiritual like a trip into the mountains where I can be all alone. The mountains are my church.
I enjoy both, but I live very near the Smoky mountains and spend a lot of time in the mountains. I don't think I could get as much enjoyment out of being near the beach, although its a fun place to visit for a week. There is only so much time I can sit on a blanket and get baked in the sun. I get very bored with that after a while.
This is tough. Can I pick both?? A place like the Oregon coast would be great (or Northern California). And probably because the water is so cold up there... less crowded! I can't stand how crowded SoCal is in the summer time. It ruins it for me.
But if I had to choose... the mountains. Because the mountains usually have some lake or river or something, and that works for me. Unless we are talking the mountains like in Phoenix, then I will pick the beach.
Flat land is too empty and blank. I guess you're a true Ohiogirl. How are these?

I grew up about an hour from the Ocean, maybe an hour and a half. I went about 3-4 times by the time I was 20. To be fair, it wasn't an area with a good ocean climate. I considered San Diego when I was relocating with more life experience, but decided against it. If I lived in San Diego, I would probably have gone to the beach at least 10 to 20 times per year.
The draw of the mountains is strong though. I don't miss the beaches that were near me when I was growing up, though I do occasionally wish to visit ones as fine as San Diego (I've been there). The idea of not seeing the mountains on a daily basis makes me feel sad. I'm not one that loves the cold, but there are mountain areas where you don't have to have cold year round.
I imagine this answer will often have to do with which areas people were around when they finally decided they were "home". I found my home, and I see the mountains every day. If I had gone to SD instead, I imagine my answer would have become the beach.
Beaches are kinda boring, you basically sit on your butt in sand that tends to work its way into everything and you look at a boring vista of water whilst getting a severe radiation burn.
Give me the mountains any day.
