If someone can prove me wrong, feel free as I am interested in all construction. From what I have read up on various construction projects, no other Texas city has the amount of 200-400+ going up right now. Austin in the next couple months should finally have a 600 footer under construction as well. What is going on right now blows away the previous construction boom for Austin IMO.

I am sure there are other large cities with more skyscraper construction than Austin, but the amount going on for a sub 2million metro is Chinese level construction. Luckily, without all the speculative building.
The thing with Austin is all of its construction is happening downtown versus Dallas & Houston where its spread out all over the city from downtown to 20+ miles outside the CBD. If all of those projects were concentrated in one area it would be more than what Austin currently has.

Austin needs a 600 footer. Houston & Dallas got theirs recently, but it hardly made an impact on the skyline with all the other tall buildings already there. It will stand out in Austin though because they don't have the skyscrapers Houston & Dallas have.

Those crane shots were amazing. No city in Texas has had their skyline change as much as Austin since 2000.

Austin didn't have much of a skyline to begin with before 2002 when West 6th was built. I saw it being built. Change is good. Outside of Austin's CBD there just isn't much going on, unlike Houston & Dallas where there are also cranes everywhere instead of being concentrated in one small area.

Unfortunately, those same 300-400 footers don't have much of an impact on a skyline already as massive as Houston's. It would literally take an 800-1,000+ footer for jaws to drop in Houston.

Kudos to Austin though. No other city its size in the US is seeing that much construction right now.

Well the whole metro of Austin is booming...maybe not skysrapper wise outside of downtown but im not sure why anyone would want huge towers anywhere but downtown. It is pretty awesome to see what's going on here..can only imagine what the metro will be like in even a few years.

A 400 footer in Austin is considered to be very tall.

I was referring to the transition of it's skyline.

That is fairly accurate.

Regarding construction outside of downtown, Austin has a ton of it, but little over 100 feet. There are dozens of 4-8 story apartments going up in South Lamar, North Lamar, East Side, Burnet, and Mueller. That said, I am ok with Austin having little skyscraper construction out of downtown, we are too small and it would only dilute the product at this point.
