I would go with El Paso.

Las Cruces just up the road is worth considering too, NMSU.

I'd choose Reno. Living on the Mexican border just scares me.

From what you've said and the time I have spent in both cities I would go w/ Reno.

good article about the low crime rate in El Paso and more:

El Paso rankings: Safest, best places for families, least hipster - El Paso Times

Texas too hot and humid. Reno has casinos and Lake Tahoe is nearby.

It's been a while since I checked in here, thanks for all the replies everybody! As an update, I have decided on Reno over El Paso. The deciding factor was the fact that I just don't think I'll be able to deal with the El Paso heat. Wisconsin cold doesn't bother me (unless it's -50), and i actually prefer cold to hot. Yeah yeah, Reno is hot, but El Paso is hotter. Also, I couldn't find many (if any) apartments in my price range in El Paso. I am going to go down to El Paso for a few days to visit my friend before I head on over to Reno. Anyone know what kind of creepy crawlies there are in Reno? My biggest hope is that there are far fewer mosquitoes in Reno than in WI. Thanks again!!

Glad somebody finally pointed this out. Crime isn't just spilling over the border the way some people seem to think. El Paso is one of the safest cities of its size in the country. There are many good reasons not to want to move there, but proximity to Cd. Juarez shouldn't be one of them.

I've spent quite a bit of time in ELP (s/o is from there), but I'd still probably pick Reno just due to the somewhat milder climate, proximity to Tahoe and the Bay Area, and just being a bit less huge and sprawly than El Paso.

El Paso is too big. If you like the big city life than that would be better than Reno. Reno is a good place for distribution because we are close to all the west coast cities and Nevada is a freeport state.
