Richmond Virginia is a dense historic mid sized city in central Virginia and it has beautiful old neighborhoods. Are those neighborhoods more similar to the historic areas of Charleston SC and Savannah GA or Washington D.C. and Baltimore MD?
The historic neighborhoods of DC and Baltimore are more defined by their rowhouses, although they have their SFR historic areas too. Neighborhoods like the Fan, Church Hill, and Jackson Ward in Richmond seem more similar to the rowhouse neighborhoods in DC/Baltimore. Savannah has some rowhouses too. Charleston's historic residential architectural styles seem to be a bit different, especially the single house.

Charleston isn't a rowhouse city like Baltimore and Washington DC. The majority of it's housing units are single homes. The same can be said for Savannah, GA.
I'm not too familar with Richmond other than visiting, but i don't know if it would be considered a row house city but it did seem to have more than Charleston and Savannah from my visits.

I never said Charleston was a rowhouse city. As a matter of fact, I said its signature historic residential architectural style is the single house:
Savannah has a few more rowhouses, but it's not the predominant historic residential architectural style.

Referencing the other thread, Richmond is most certainly not a Mid-Atlantic city. It is Southern thru and thru, and would have more in common with Charleston than Baltimore. I knew some folks here in Philly that moved there, and came back a couple years later. Totally Southern according to them. No one moving from Philly to Baltimore or DC has ever said that. That is why DC, Philly and Baltimore are all part of the same "Mid-Atlantic" region, and Richmond is not.
Gwillyfromphilly do you think Richmond could be considered a row house city?
Yes. Rowhouses are all over the city. Richmond infrastructure is actually more similar to Northern cities than it is to Southern/Sunbelt Cities. Culturally it's definitely Southern and not really a traditional Mid-Atlantic city like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington DC are.
Richmond looked more like DC with more industry and less polish. For sure southern though.
