Mostly a difference of precipitation.
American Rockies are dry until you reach northern Idaho.
Canadian Rockies are a lot greener due to much more rainfall.

To me the Canadian Rockies are more "lush" and beautiful in that aspect, but to actually spend time backpacking and camping I prefer the drier climates with fewer mosquitos and weird plants and undergrowth.

Hate to be picky here, but the Sierra Nevada Range and Death Valley are not in the Rockies.

I love the WHOLE Rocky Mountain Range, from New Mexico up thru Alberta/British Columbia, with no regard for the government imposed boundry.

I plan on visiting the Sierra Nevada's one day soon... but I will have to agree with you about the Rockies. Until recently I've only seen them in pictures which does not give one the full perspective of their size ect...

Colorado Rockies = PEOPLE / pressures (recreation / pollution)

MT and WY Rockys much less people / pressure

Candian Rockies = People NOPE, no people (or only in USA tourist zones... back when USA tourists could afford Canada.)

Currently Canada is suffering 'LACK-OF-tourism' PAINS, big time. CNDs are in USA, USA folks are broke / NOT going to Canada. Europe is staying home. ...Canada is VERY nice to enjoy the 'out-of-doors'. It is NOT cheap to do so.
