What is more important when considering a place to live....city, metro area, or state?

I think you should just consider the metro area when deciding on where to live. Not the whole entire state because states have different areas and not just one city because you usually commute from one city to another.

Both city and metro area- also region is very important to me and proximity to coast so not one true answer for me. State is likely least important to me, outside of potentially factoring in significant tax differences
