We currently live in a city, but we just moved from a small town (30,000 people) that was known for its agriculture, forest, rural personalities, and yet it had that perfect small town feel to it. Sadly, we cannot move back, since crime rate has jumped up and husband hates it.

Here is what we are looking for:

Population: Small that it is close, but not so small that it is like the town is not even there. Minimum about 10,000 (Unless it is a really nice town) and absolute maximum being 60,000 (I have seen towns that have that small town feel with a bigger population than normal)

Weather/Terrain: Nothing in the desert or has a huge risk in flooding. Also, nothing that rains all the time. We absolutely love nice forest, and my daughter seem to really take to the mountain forest areas of Tennessee. My daughter isn't the biggest fan of swampy areas that she can't get around and niether am I.

Things to do: We like some form of activity. The small town that we use to live in had a nice rec center that has been there since forever, community sports, a little library, and of course the teenagers could go outside to take care of their animals, practice archery, ride their bikes around town, etc.. There were also tons of 4-H clubs, FFA activty, and agriculture was everywhere. Ever since we have relocated to the city, my teenage daughter (14) doesn't want to go outside or do anything. We have no yard either. We use to live on a twelve acres. So, I'd like a place with lots of outdoor activity where the teenagers actually do stuff. 4-H clubs preffered and a school in the town.

Agriculture: My daughter loves animals, and she likes to do projects with the FFA or 4-H club. I think she would just die in happiness if she found a place that had more activity in horses. Also, all the family participates in training herding dogs.

State: I would prefer somewhere like Tennessee or Texas.

Other things: An airport would be needed somewhere close to the town.

Thanks!

Check out Kingsport, Tennessee. It's a beautiful area in the extreme northeastern tip of the state at the NC/VA state lines in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and features all of the outdoor recreation you could hope for. Tri-Cities Airport provides fairly decent commercial service with four carriers (Delta, USAir, Allegiant and American Eagle).

Perhaps Cookeville or Bristol in TN.

If you didn't mind my neck of the woods, places like Queensbury, Plattsburgh(town of), Dryden, Webster, Sweden(Brockport area), Baldwinsville(Inc. the towns of Van Nuremberg and Lysander) and Lancaster(town of), among others in NY.

Perhaps places like Richmond and Morehead KY, Morgantown WV, Lewisburg/State College/Millersville and Gettysburg in PA, Cumberland MD, Harrisburg/Blacksburg/Lexington and Winchester in VA, among others.

BTW- that should have been the town of Van Buren in the Baldwinsville area.
