i'm transporting a front wheel drive car about 700miles, is it worth paying double for the carrier?

My choice would be to drive it the 700 miles.

Depends, if it is $100 for the dolly and $200 for the carrier, I would go Carrier for sure. If it is $500 for dolly and $1K for carrier, I would use the dolly. I have transported cars cross country using both and never had a problem either way. Carrier is easier on the towed vehicle usually, and you can back a carrier up, where you are not supposed to using a dolly. No matter what method you chose to use, make sure you check the straps thoroughly and often to make sure they are not slipping and are still tight.

not really an option, 3 vehicles and only 2 drivers.

thanks bydand, it's only $110 difference so i gues it's probably worth it for the carrier.

I used a dolly for my Honda Civic, when I moved from Chicago to Cleveland, and it went smoothly. I would absolutley reccomend it, unless your car has bad rear tires or something.
