It looks like some sort of maple tree, the leaves are shaped like maple leaves but the tree shoots practically straight up. The problem: the leaves have white spots all over them......almost the whole leaf! The leaves that have fallen to the ground are mostly dried up and shriveled. I picked up several, barehanded and noticed my hands and arms were itchy.........naturally you'd think some sort of fungi. My questions are what type of tree is this? and what's the disease? and how to treat it? Any ideas? is there a diseased tree website where i can check out some pics?
And to top it off, it looks like there's some white spots started on the neighbours tree!
Without seeing a picture, I'd guess powdery mildew on a sycamore. If that's the case, its almost always more annoying than harmful. And yes, it can make you feel itchy.

Yup, powdery mildew is a more accurate description..........also may be a sycamore too. I don't know about the "more annoying than harmful" part though?! Looks like most of the leaves are covered and appears to be spreading to my neighbours.........thanks, no pics as of yet
Thanks, looked at it nitram, i'd say it looks more like the mildew on the cranberrry one.......except worse, more of those white spores than the original green leaf
I have the same problem with one of our indoor tree's. I'm afraid it will soon be dead. I can't remember what type of tree it was (it was here when we bought the house). It's had this stuff since we moved here in June '07, and it's just now showing signs of dying. Same deal, the leaves have turned brown are falling off and the rest of the tree just looks down right sick. I don't know how to solve the problem either!
You can spray the leaves, top & bottom, with a mixture of milk & water.
"Experts recommend" usually 1 part milk to 9 parts water.
Best luck!
