Hi All,
I was curious if anybody had any recommendations for a lawnmower.
I have an average size yard, not hilly.

Looking to purchase from either Home Depot, Lowes or Sears...
$250 max. Must be gas!
What would you recommend and why..

Thanks

I bought a gas Husqvarna with Honda engine for less than $300 from a local dealer (even though I bought mine six years ago, the price is unchanged). I recommend buying local because of the service; when I take my mower in for maintenance (annual service / blade sharpening), I get it back within a week, instead of the normal two to six weeks wait.

Toro gets my vote. I have a self propelled mower. My property is not big enough to justify a riding mower but just big enough that the self-propelled mower is a bit under serving. That means it takes me longer in general and if grass gets real long, its a bit of a bear. What can I say--I'm stuck. I swear by Toro though. They have an excellent warranty but with proper maintenance it will be no issue. I think Home Depot sells them but the models are slightly different from what Toro sells through power equipment places. Home Depot's models come with a 3 year warranty as opposed to Toro's 5 year warranty. I think the engines are slightly different too. I am not sure why or what those differences are off hand. Mine has a 6.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I personally do not like Kohler engines or Tecumseh engines. Most lawn mowers will either have a Briggs and Stratton or Honda engine. Kawasaki makes a good engine but I think most of theirs are on riding mowers.

I have a snow blower that is a little 4.5 hp 2 cycle that must be 15-17 years old. Just had it serviced this past summer and it starts right up on first pull. Great product. Great company.

I second Toro, my dad always had Toro lawnmowers growing up, our first recycler mower in 1988 was a Toro, lasted forever, then we upgraded to a self-propelled recycler. I purchased a Toro self-propelled, recyler mower for my home last summer. I LOVE it...Ihave .25 property size, so having the self-propelled featured is great, especially on a few sloped areas...Happy mowing!

The only gas mower I ever used was a Murray, with a Briggs and Stratton engine.
