Two ash trees in my front yard are dying. They have lost all their leaves and many branches. The tree guy said that emerald ash borer is most likely the cause. These two trees have to be cut down. Since I have several other big ash trees, all look reasonably healthy, one showing spotty yellow leaves and dead branches. The tree guy said they can do insecticide soil drench or trunk injection (for larger trees) to prevent the remaining ash trees from emerald ash borer. The cost is about $100 per year for each tree. I don't know the true effectiveness of this kind of treatment, especially for emerald ash borer.
Does anyone have similar experience? Which insecticide did you use? Soil drench or trunk injection? Is this effective so far? Thanks.
I have been doing the trunk injection for the past 7 years. I think the product used is Treeage. So far it has worked beautifully. Other trees in the area are dying/have died, but my tree is happy and healthy. It costs me $200 every 2-3 years, and is worth every penny to me to save the largest tree on my property.
