I'm looking for a small town (5,000 or so population) within a county no bigger than approx. 70,000.
Looking to be about an hour outside of Fort Worth. I prefer to live on at least one acre or more and upscale is preferred. Should I be looking north, south, east, or west?

Thanks!!

What's your budget? Job? I noticed you posted in Dallas and Fort Worth. I was born in Dallas and have lived in DFW all of my life. There are towns I never heard of growing up that are now full-fledged suburbs of Dallas or Fort Worth. There is nothing stopping the sprawl from continuing. I know people who moved out to the country and the sprawl caught up to them with an inadequate road network so they deal with awful traffic.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere but enjoy a small town feel. No worries for job at this time. Budge would be about 550k but don't want to get caught in those high property taxes so that is a bit flexible.

Weatherford, TX.

Moved here last year and really love it. 20 minutes from Fort Worth.

My pick would be Granbury. Hood county is likely over 70k in population by now but the community doesn’t feel like it. The city has excellent amenities including a lake and the Brazos River and I don’t ever expect it to get swallowed up by D-fw sprawl. I think you get the best of both worlds descent shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, and a country lifestyle.

THANK YOU. This CANNOT be said enough!!! Just look at how fast DFW is growing; this is EXACTLY what people fail to realize, when they come to Fort Worth and Dallas forums asking for "small country towns 30 minutes to an hour outside of Fort Worth or Dallas."

When I was in high school, my cousins moved out to the country in The Colony. Their former home is now on a Fm road not built for the traffic it now gets.
