Hello all! I'd love some insight and help if possible. We just moved here from the east coast and are currently renting in north FtW near Keller but starting our house hunt. We've looked into Aledo a bit and love the country but worry about the commute. We've also looked up into Haslet and Newark but haven't found the right combination of house/property/trees... (we love the huge trees out here!) We recently looked at a home that is near Lakeside, but in FtW, one street near this house is called Sea Turtle Way to give you a reference point. My husband works around the Heritage Alliance Plaza (Alliance town center I think?) just off of 35W. He typically goes in to work at 6am, driving home around 3:30. He'd have to take the 820 to 35 to work and then home. We've driven this on the wknd and it seemed to be about a 30 min ride but not sure how it'll be during the week. Can anyone give us some insight heading in the same direction from that area? I homeschool our kids so school district isn't a huge issue, but I also haven't been able to find many playgrounds in the Lakeside area. (I've only just begun our research though). We prefer a more country setting but don't want to be in run down areas either. We're looking for anywhere from a half to multiple acres. Our max budget is $375. And one more side note, we'd prefer to stay at our parish in Keller (SEAS), so that commute is something to consider as well.
Thank you so much, I appreciate any feedback!!

It's been more than a decade since we lived in the Fossil Creek area so I can't give advice about that. I try to drive the commute. It may not be too bad that early in the morning but you'd have to try it a few different days to know for sure. I would definitely look for alternate routes along the way. How much of a problem is it if he's late because of an accident or road construction?

I-35 is a total mess, there is so much traffic and road works going on, and will be fore the foreseeable future. Have you tried looking at Roanoak?

If by "foreseeable future", you mean the next 9 months, then yes. Construction on 35 north of 820 will be done this year and I would never let 9 months of construction be a major factor in a long term decision like a house purchase.

IMO far north fort worth is going to be parking lot even when the construction is done on 35. Way too many people have moved to that area.

It still won't be perfect, but the toll lanes and extending entrances, exits, and acceleration/deceleration lanes will improve traffic flow. It certainly helped on 183 in the Mid Cities. If you buy into the idea of induced demand, traffic will never get better regardless of how many lanes you add.

I don't think all the construction they did on on 820 or 183 really made much difference honestly. All the old bottlenecks and slow spots are still there. Mid cities is still as bad to drive through as it was 10 years ago. The only difference is the toll lanes and who wants to pay tolls everyday??? The same thing is happening with 35. They're just going to put toll lanes in. Great.

more construction planned for I-35...

TxDOT has received a proposal from NTE Mobility Partners Segments 3, LLC to rebuild I-35W from US 81/287 to Eagle Parkway. This eight-mile project is estimated to begin construction in 2018.

The commute from Lakeside to Alliance area will be a major nightmare for about the next 5 years.
We live in Trace Ridge just off North Tarrant Parkway and I work down near Arlington, it takes me about 40 minutes to go 22 miles. We picked this area so that our youngest could finish at Central High School in Keller ISD.
