Hi all,

My wife and I have had enough of the northeast. Boston in particular. She's a nurse practitioner, so we're not worried too much about employment. I'm a musician. I stopped worrying years ago.

Anyway, we're looking for an area near the beach. I love distance running, so somewhere I could go for a run anytime day or night without worrying about becoming a crime stat is very important. My wife is into hiking. We also enjoy kayaking. No kids, and not planning on any. Our home here in Boston would probably sell in less then a week for 350k, so we have a nice budget for purchasing down there.

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated!

You should be able to find a nice canal home in SW in that price range.......I'd go with a broker if you don't know the area.

Welcome....just bought down here last year, from the Wash. D.C. area. We made several trips down to look around. Then we met with a Realtor, it was eye opening what a professional pointed out that we overlooked about the area. Lots of area to look at, the toughest decision was to decide what we wanted, and where we wanted it. If you sell in the NE and use a Realtor, most nationwide companys have a referal program for the area you are moving too. If not plenty of them in Cape Coral/ Ft.Myers
That being said....we love it here. Nice people, great weather, if you love the outdoors, this is a great place. Saw you were a distance runner, plenty of Bike trails, and area to run.....hope you dont like running hills, not many of them around. Good Luck!!

Here are a few unorganized thoughts. Hiking here isn't very good compared to more outdoor oriented areas. There are some places but they are of poor quality compared to most states in the east. Crime particularly violent crime is very low which is great. The beach is a bit of a drive at least a half hour but water access is fantastic so kayaking and boating is wonderful for the area. 350k will buy a nice smaller canal home. Off canal that kind of money will likely buy a palace. There is an amazing 5 bedroom monster of a home near us for less than that so just depends on your water access needs.

If you are open to places, Venice just north of Cape Coral may be a better fit as it is just as safe, right on the beach and has similar pricing.
