We will be moving to the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area in the next two months for my husband's job. My oldest son will be entering Kindergarten in the fall. What is the best area for a family with two young children? We are looking for a neighborhood environment with other children and families. The school choice program is new to me, but I am attempting to make sense of it. Is it difficult to get your first choice school? What is the best zone? Does anyone have any information on the charter elementary schools (Oasis and Christa McAuliffe) in Cape Coral? Does anyone have suggestions for the best elementary schools (either in Fort Myers or Cape Coral)? Please help! We are coming from out of state and are not familiar with the area. Thank you!

Hi, we moved when my oldest was starting kindergarten also. That was several years ago! We lived for a time in Gateway and then moved to South Fort Myers. We really like the Fort Myers area a lot. We enjoyed our time in Gateway too. School choice was daunting at first, but if you do your homework, tour the schools, and have patience then you should be okay. If you don't get your first choice you can get on their waiting list. You can also keep trying throughout the year to get in when a seat becomes available. I think we got our fifth choice. We had to switch him after school started when our name came up. Anyway, we have been happy with the schools we chose and the kids are doing great. I'm sorry, I don't really know about the charter schools in the Cape. You can message me if you would like more info. Welcome!

What have you heard about the schools? Any that were suggested over others? Or neighborhoods/communities? The school choice program is a bit daunting. We are coming from the midwest and children attend school at the elementary closest to home. Our oldest will be starting Kindergarten and youngest in PreK.

Are many people recommending private school? I would prefer to stick with public schools if possible.

Thank you for any help!
