I'm moving to the beach soon and have narrowed my search to 2 apts a couple of blocks from the beach...one just off Hillsboro and A1A in Deerfield Beach and one a few blocks south of Oakland Park and A1A in Ft. Lauderdale. Both have lots of places to walk to nearby, which is what I want.

Which area would you consider better for a single female over 40 to meet new people? I'm not really into the weekend nite club scene, but want a place where people are friendly and I can make some new friends...getting a date wouldn't hurt either
I'm from the Midwest, so I'm pretty friendly and laid back. I don't have friends in the area, so I will be going out and about by myself. Maybe stopping for a salad and a glass of wine after work, lunch on Sat afternoon, that kind of thing. I do party a bit, but not into the "meat" market scene.

Any input would be appreciated.

thanks

Default Deerfield Beach is the place to live

Deerfield is the area to move to, 5 minutes from Boca Raton, 15 minutes from Ft Lauderdale. Many people in Deerfield during the evening walk to the beach, I included. It's very safe in Deerfield the crime is very low. If you wanted dinner, drink the Cove Resturant on Fridays is the place to go, there are also many other types of resturants in the city.
I've been living in Deerfield for almost 30 years, also a great area to meet people, most of the people that live in Deerfield are baby-boomers so from my point of view it's more laid back thatn other cities in Broward.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually just leased an apt. in Deerfiled Beach. I scoped out the Ft. Lauderdale Oakland Park/A1A area on a Sunday afternoon...most of the shops and restaurants were closed, and there were very few people out and about. Drove north to Deerfield, and it was hopping...people everywhere...so I made my choice.

The Cove is definitely a "meat market" especially on Friday nights but I believe you will really like Deerfield better than Ft. Lauderdale. There are many other places to walk to in Deerfield.
