We will be visiting Fort Collins and the surrounding towns for three days next month and are curious on some good spots to check out to get a real feel for the town. My husband and I have two young children, so neighborhood wise, we are looking for family friendly. What are some good sections to drive through to get a good idea of homestyles and community? We would like to checkout the downtown area and find a good restuarant or two. Also high on our list are quality school districts, quality rec centers (i.e. YMCA - with child care), good parks and easy hiking areas we can take the kids to. Open to other suggestions...............thanks in advance for your insight and feedback.

Swetsville Zoo (for the kids, and the kid in you)
Timnath exit and east a couple hundred meters on the South side of road.

Loveland Benson Park for a nice sunset stroll.

Hiking along Thompson River in Loveland and Poudre in Ft Collins.

Since I prefer Loveland, and a Masonville ranch kid / Big Thompson School alumni... (I don't do traffic or crowds), Check out the Chilson rec center on East 4th. Loveland

I swam High School pools on my lunchbreaks for 10 yrs @ $.75 / day (30 yrs ago). Still that price last time I was there swimming (2 yrs ago). I did just visit Ft Collins again last week, and do so several times / yr.

Estes is nice to visit (better than living there... windy, cold, expensive, but decent schools)
