Hey all, Look like moving here early in new year from Western Australia.
Getting married in Utah just before Christmas to a beautifull woman who hates hot weather, loves snow and rain whilst I like mild warm summers hope this is the place to come.
My question is this, I am 50 yrs old so I know employment will be an issue.
What I was wondering is how hard it would be to start up my own business and if you could think of what might be appropriate or what might be lacking in this area. My experience is in transport and or sales but have started my own business before.
Hope these questions are ok,looking forward to your imput. thanks in advance.

Your own business might be good.

In transport, if you mean trucking then that could very well a good option except we drive on the correct side of the road. It is very safe here, compared to other parts of the world. You'd need a Commercial Driver's License which involves a physical, written and road test plus you'd be subject to random stops in various states checking and inspecting your truck and load and random drug testings. One occurance of a blood alcohol level or something like .02 and you're done.

I'd skip sales. Period unless you like whiny people from the northeastern US. They've discovered Colorado too and are the newest 'invasion'. There's a silver lining to that; somewhat good Italian (New York style) food. I expect the mob to corner the concrete business in Denver next.

Good Luck and congratulations!

I have a somewhat dry sense of humor. You'll have to take some of what I write with a grain of salt....like we drive on the 'correct' side of the road. On thing that some UKer's remark about is you can turn right on red. Can you turn left on red in Australia?

But all states and the Feds do take Commerical Truck Driving and drinking very seriously. When I mean you get caught blowing (into a breathalizer) or peeing .02 BAC dirty that's the end of trucking for you forever.

Congradulations on your upcoming nuptuals! (I don't think I spelled that right and I'm too lazy to google it but I am not too lazy to keep typing this post..oh well...mate!)
