help! problem with spring/strut/shock?
Hi,
Maybe you kind souls can help me? need some info before going to a shop....be more informed.

2004 Focus ZX5
2.3L DOHC Engine
mileage- 21,546

Poor helpless gal here, haha. Bear with me, I don't know all the terms.

Was hearing some clunking, kind of from the back end, when hitting bunps in the road the other night.
Looked under the rear end. It looks like the right side, where the shock and spring things are is sagging. Does not look like the left side, which appears to be 'up in place'. It looks like maybe the strut?? is not attached up into whatever it attaches to near the tire? Some part doesn't look 'in place'.
The spring and shock parts look intact, I reckon, as they aren't hanging loose or unsprung.

Does this make any sense? Can anyone advise what this might be?

Is there someplace online where I can see a pic of the rear end underneath that has this parts labeled? I might could identify the part properly then...

thank you ever so much if anyone can help!

From what you write, I would guess the lower mount (bolt?) has come loose. You do need to fix this or get it fixed, any decent shop should be able to do the work. They should be able to show you what's wrong with the suspension. Offhand I would not expect this to be very expensive.

thanks m3 mitch, I went ahead & took it to the shop. He rode in the back while I rode thru a bumpy parking lot and heard it. Didn't 'see' anything out of sorts looking under rear end, around the shock and spring.... Thought the shock could have broke off possibly, so will pull something off inside and look in from there...he seems to have an idea.
