I have a 98 Ford Ranger 5 speed that you have to push clutch in to crank.
Sometimes it will turn over the first time then the other times I have to give it at least 4 times in order to get it started.
Thats the problem lol I want to fix the issue but I want to do it correct the first time before whatever gives out completely and can be driven to get it fixed.

Ignition switch, batter cable connection, clutch switch, starter, there are many possibilities and no one can tell you for sure without testing. I'd start with the simplest, check the battery cables, posts for corrosion and tightness.

Does it make a grinding noise when it refuses to start? If it does you can add a worn ring gear to the list of possible causes.
Nope, No clicking I turn the key have the clutch fully pressed when it wont turn over I can always get it on fourth try. Weird Not the 2nd or 3rd always fourth try.
If I go in a convenience store come back it turns over just fine.
Ill check battery cables since that doesnt cost anything.
I wish I knew what it was before I put it in a shop so I know they are getting correct thing and not scam having wrong thing replaced.
This truck has a ghost.

If you have the clutch down, and turn the key, and get nothing at all, no click, no nothing, I would suspect the interlock switch that detects that the clutch is depressed is not closing all the way or is defective.
Me, I would bypass the damn thing, I prefer to start in neutral with the clutch released (no side load on main bearings/thrust bearing).
If you don't want to DIY, find a good independent shop, these are as a class the best repair shops, better than most all dealer's service departments, and way better than chain garages.
