You seem to like the more obscure designs from the '70's.
I know I do. Love 70s cars. Have two myself... very reliable cars.
If this car has a solid drivetrain and a good undercarriage (not rusty), I would say it would be a better bargain than the plain-jane Nova. You can have someone add power steering and power brakes... not too hard to do. Power brakes would be easier.
My grandfather had a Maverick when I was a young toddler. In the late 80's as a pre-teen, my father bought a 1972 Maverick painted Richard Petty Blue as a winter car.
Thoughts? By now, it has to be fairly unique. Not many around. A good example certainly would be a conversation piece. I remember that the lap belts, and shoulder belts separated. I also remember not buckling up caused a buzzer to sound and it was really annoying.
Yeah, my mother had a 77 Maverick sedan... last year for them. It was a very high optioned model, with A/C, FM radio, vinyl top, power steering, power brakes, deluxe hubcaps, and the upgraded interior. etc. It had the inline 6 though... very good engines. Interior materials however were not up to par with the larger Torino and LTD which were really well made cars.
Dont get discouraged if this is not what you are looking for, there are plenty of other older 70s cars that came factory with power steering, power brakes and A/C, especially the larger cars. All of my 70s cars have been optioned with all.
Ah, good ol rear wheel drive simple car. Back in the late 70s my wife had a 72 Maverick 2 door. I honestly can't remember why we traded it for a Toyota, but I don't recall any negative running issues with it at all. I also didn't realize they made them until 77, Tennessee.
We went to look at the car. The car was in decent shape with minor rust. The interior was clean to my surprise. Alot better than others I've seen. It ran strong. The valve caps needed replacing. We almost bought it until I put water in the cowl and it was leaking all over the front floor.
I didn't know about the cowl until another poster on CD told me about it. Thank you to Moth!
If you are looking for a cheap to buy and then cheap to run car, you have probably found a good example here. Of course I can't evaluate the condition of the car from the 'net, but this car came with minimal smog equipment, the 6-cylinder Ford engines are decent, it's a simple car, easy to work on.
Keep in mind that any car like this that's been out of service will probably have some issues when it's put back in service - brake wheel cylinders for example may start leaking, I would take a hard look at the v-belts and radiator hoses and replace these pre-emptively if you buy it. Likewise tires, they may be old and age-cracked.
