Elston - that sounds wonderful! I am, however, not a fan of turnips . I keep trying them throughout the years, (we actually had the last of them from Dad's garden the other day - along with the greens), but I still don't like them. I keep hoping my taste buds will change. It's funny, I won't eat them - the roots or the greens - but my husband says I can sure cook up a mess! Oh well. I will just keep trying to broaden my taste-bud horizons!

Well, maybe you can share your Dad's recipe? I would love to try it!

My parents and DH seem to like Collards better than anything else, but they do like their turnips (roots and greens!)

I would love to, only problem is my husband took it upon himself to pack all our cookbooks, as we are in the process of selling our house.

My Dad made me this cute little hand written cookbook for Xmas one year with all his own recipes. I will see if I can find the box.

My yes! I have strips of fat back in the freezer for just such an occasion! I actually prefer ham hocks to anything else, but sometimes, you just gotta add the fat-back!!!

Could you ever have believed at the time there might possibly be a better dinner than cotton candy and CrackerJack ?
