It's probably the same Hyatt we stayed at when my parents took me to Orlando as a kid. I had a brochure of the place as it was in 1973. Probably somewhere in all my old Florida junk.

Thanks for the link on the Hyatt. It is the one my coworkers and I stayed at for a national conference.

Default the elysium

Did EXTENSIVE search on this place & have absolutely no information as to why it was abandoned. the googlemaps street view of the place shows a for sale sign & a bunch of cones & signs blocking off the drive ways.
the facilities website is still up check it out, but its not much yp.bellsouth.com/sites/assistedliving/

found an advertisement for "huge 2-day auction" to try & get rid of their stuff right after they shut down march 14th-15th but it doesnt specify a year. im assuming it was deserted no earlier than 2005.
googled owner's name & still found nothing.
absolutely nothing.
i plan on visiting VERY soon

There's not alot of information on this place, i've only driven up there a few times, but have never gone inside the building. Supposedly it was evacuated during hurricane Charlie which I believe was in 2004 or 2005. I don't know why they never came back, but the most logical explanation would be that the damage was beyond repair.

The elysian looks as if everyone left in a hurry. There are books and supplies all still there. I wonder what happened that this place was abandoned with so much still left there. A hurricane maybe?

Nandays are great (but loud) little birds, but 'feral' is a more accurate description than wild -- the continental US has no more native parrots. These Nandays were either released by their owners or escaped from captivity.

Neither here nor there,In early 60's moved to Jax Beach. We bought metal detector and would go to abandoned schools and farm homes in southern GA along north FL border and was quite interesting.Still have some items, the best was brass shotgun shell, parts to old cars and a The Hartford Ins company ink blotter from around 1900 various receit's for taxes.ins etc.We would use metal detector in area's where they would have worked on vehicle. These places were completely abandoned with trees etc growing thru floor's and windows and doors gone.We even had encounter with large rattle snake.Good times all gone.
