One opened in Fort Walton Beach and is now close....Orlando-based Darden Restaurants shut down more than 50 of its Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill locations across the country Saturday and said it will sell the remaining 73.
"Barbecue in the U.S. is very, very regionalized, and I think Darden believed they had cracked the code on how to appeal to a cross-regional market.

We visited ones and is not worth the money....

I totally agree...I love my barbeque, being from Texas, now in Florida I miss being able to have it as often...I tried their place, first it was too expensive AND it wasn't that good.
At this point, I make my own at home.

One thing I do is to take beef ribs...put a dry rub on them and then cook them in a crock pot...take them out before they fall off the bone and brown them under the broiler...then top with barbecue sauce...I get raves over that...

When I do a brisket, it takes so long, I again use the dry rub and then cook it at the lowest the stove will go, it takes FOREVER.

My crock pot isn't big enough for a brisket but I did see where they have now come out with a counter top slower cooker designed just for that at Bed Bath and Beyond.

For me the secret is the dry rub, I have family bring or mail me a supply from my favorite barbecue place in Texas but I'm sure you can find a recipe you can mix up yourself...

It of course would be better to use an outside smoker but I don't do that...

I read another article that Darden is closing some of their Bahama Breezes also. I think the ones in Florida are staying open for the moment anyway. They're going to focus on Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

So THAT'S what happened to the Smokey Bones in Tallahassee! Noticed it this past weekend that the building seemed closed on a Saturday night... even though it's usually got a packed parking lot!

Many people disagree with me, but I still love Sonny's Barbecue!

I personally find Sonnys disgusting, you can taste the liquid smoke on the meat...thats nasty.

But I am picky about my barbecue...in my opinion, you should have to shave the meat so thin in order to hide that its not tender...

The only good BBQ places are the independants. Florida was full of the log-cabin style, flashy neon BBQ restaurants. Otherwise the only good BBQ is at home. I love mine!
