I'm relatively new here, in Valrico Florida.
I saw a little black snake with an orange ring around it's neck, yesterday in my yard. I'm wondering if there are more like this or is the mother close by, and is this type of snake dangerous? I was fast and crawled towards my hedges, it was under my front door mat. I slithered away after I picked up the mat to change the position. How much bigger are they?

Sounds like a harmless Florida Ringneck snake.

The average adult size is 6-10 inches and the ring can yellow, orange, or cream. They feed on small earthworms, slugs, frogs, anoles, geckos, skinks, snakes, and salamanders.

No need to worry at all about these snakes as they are non-venomous and their teeth are so little that a bite would be painless.

You will see plenty of them and they don't get too big. They are harmless to humans and if you dislike frogs like I do you learn to love them lol.

Yeah, it's a Ringneck. They truely are very timid with people. It won't hurt you unless you go out of your way to annoy it. If then, a bite doesn't hurt much at all (speaking from experience).

Ringneck, completely harmless. They do not get very big, aren't aggressive and cannot practically bite you even if they wanted to.

I had a few as pets as a kid.
