Has a member of your family received any benefits form this program?

Florida Lottery has reached a new milestone in contributions to Florida education – $17 billion. The Lottery’s 19-year total has benefited Florida’s students and schools, including fully funding the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. In fiscal year 2005-06, the Lottery contributed $1.22 billion to education, making it the fourth consecutive year with transfers of more than one billion dollars to the Educational Enhancement Trust

Insofar as the lottery money that gets put into the Educational Enhancement Trust funds Bright Futures Scholarships, I received 100% paid tuition for my undergraduate college education at a Public Florida University!!

Many others I know received the same, or 75% tuition coverage depending on grades and SAT scores.

Yes! I currently have 7 grandchildren in public schools. One granddaughter is using her Bright Futures Scholarship in college.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of how the Lottery monies are being used. I know one is Bright Futures, but when the funds go into education, are there line items specifically for enhanced programs? Or does a lot of it get placed (or transferred into) the general budget so it can be used for basic education?

Our kid has qualified for Bright Futures, and will definitely take advantage!

In the fall, he will be at either Rollins or Florida State, it has not yet been decided.

(FSU would be a lot cheaper--but like I said, the decision has not yet been made, but will be soon.)

That's great, but we were sold a bill of goods when we passed the lottery back in the late 80s. We were told it would be supplemental to the funding levels at the time...BS...it simply replaced funding. No additional benefit.

In Georgia, the lotto goes directly to the Pre-K program. Lotto sales were down recently, so the pre-k program had to be trimmed from a full-day program to 4 hours a day. FL can only manage to fund 3 hours a day.
