Hello all,

I am a newly single mom with three kids (Ages 14, 11 & 6), who is considering a move to FL but has no idea what areas to consider. Before I continue, I'll state a few things about us.
  • We are quiet, peaceful and christian family of color.
  • My kids have never been in any trouble, are intelligent, get good grades and have ambition to do great LEGAL things with their lives.
  • Until recently, I worked as a medical secretary but was laid off due to the economy.
  • We are looking to relocate because one of my children needs to live in a warmer climate and I am hoping that the employment market in the healthcare industry is better there.
I am normally a very positive and open minded person but after reading some of the negative comments regarding race on some of these boards, I feel the need to state these things. I want to live somewhere where my children and I will be accepted and safe. Can anyone advise me on which areas to consider?

Thank you.

Yes, Look in Tallahassee, Fl

It has a great quality of life, good schools, nice parks.

Always highly rated in best place to raise a family

Tallahassee has a very accepting culture

We are also very racially diverse and highly educated.

We would love to have you.

I'm not sure why anyone would recommend Jacksonville as a place where you and your children would be safe. Crime in Jacksonville is a topic of conversation across northern Florida, especially all of the shootings. If you don't have a job to come to, find one before you come here. Unemployment is a problem here. I'd suggest a federal job. Gainesville and Lake City have VA hospitals. Both are small to medium size places that are still safe - much safer than Jacksonville. Tallahassee is pretty good, if you can find a job.
