We should get some relief and the estimates range from 5 percent for many inland customers to averages of nearly 20 percent for others, particularly those on the coast.

That is $50.00 per $1,000 of insurance for the low end and $200.00 in the high end. I will average out at 10 percent or $100 per $1,000.00. What you think? Should it be greater?

The state is backing up the insurance companies, with our money?
But WE and the state take on that risk.

OK...I didn't quite follow you. How would that affect my 1600.00 bill?

Wow, sorry but I don't think that's going to help much with the whopping premiums some folks are paying. We need to return to the normal levels of 3 or 4 years ago, at least, to really help.

It does help, but I am still paying $4640, IF I am lucky to get the 20% for an 1800 sq. ft. home that isn't close to the water. West of US1 in Miami. And they say this is only a band-aid. Rates can still go right back up in 2008 they say.

I believe that depending on your location you get a percent discount. Also unclear is exactly when people will see savings.

sunrico - on the news just now they stated a quick little blurb at the end of the story... something about this bill not taking affect until june or july so if your premium rolls over before that, you will have to wait until NEXT YEAR to see the reduction!!! Did anyone else hear that??????????

So if that is the case, does that mean the huge increase that was slated for this year will still go through... and then a reduction will happen the following year???

Anybody know this?

Are there public servants on this board (Firemed?) that see this as troublesome for state pension funds? Has a state ever gone bankrupt? If not, this solution seems like a great way to make Florida the first.

Ooops, did I write Florida? I meant to write Flooreeduh!!!

I think New York did but I'm not sure. I think with all the free sunshine why would I need the pension anyway. I'm just glad to be part of this great state ! I think from this day on I will pay twice the premiums to help the state and recommend that everyone in the state do it. Who's with me on this? I like Flooreeduh.

I would like to try to figure out where MY savings might be. I went from $1800 to $6500 in less than 3 years and I don't see where I'd be saving anything. I might just get a little reduction off the high number but the end result is STILL wayyyyyyyyy higher given where I started.

So....where's the beef????
