The effort to get a North Florida casino before statewide voters next November officially failed on Feb. 1, when the committee running the Florida campaign, Florida Voters In Charge, failed to get enough verified voter signatures to qualify the measure for the ballot.

Jacksonville

The Seminoles have casino's. I support their ability to remain the ONLY entity to have casino's.

There are plenty of non Indian casinos in Florida. I’ve actually said that it’s inadvisable to gamble at Indian casinos because, being on reservation land, they are not subject to state gambling laws, and thus the odds of winning anything are the lowest of the low.

And $73M is probably a drop in the bucket for LV Sands, let’s be real.

Why support them? They essentially take money out of the local economy. If the gambling didn't exist maybe local businesses would benefit.

Their casinos, their rules and they don't pay a single dollar in property taxes to the state of Florida. They do pay federal taxes but Florida doesn't see a $1 of that money.

Casinos are kind of tacky and low class.

It's entertainment to many, one I do not participate in. Any successfully run legal business adds to the economy.

Florida is a low tax state and most of us prefer that, however to say Florida doesn't see any of the entertainment/tourist dollars is just not true.

I didn't know that. Maybe there are huge licensing fees to obtain & retain the gaming license annually they have to pay to the County and/or state? Like liquor liceneses. Maybe they are assessed as a % of revenues?

Some of the federal income tax money could come back to Florida, in the way of Federal assistance (like Hurricane help), but its not traceable.

I get that its good entertainment for some, but some get hooked on it, & gamble it all away. I saw this happen to a neighbor up North. I also don't like gambling establishments because it attracts unlawful activity..like drugs & prostitution. But, I'm against the government getting involved in everything.

I'm on the fence on this one for now. I'd rather not have casino's in FLA, but so long as they are not close to me, I could look the other way. After all, we do have the Lottery right?

No body says anything about ship/cruise casino's. There's plenty of gambling in Florida... we don't need more.

Florida receives the third highest funding of all 50 states from the Federal government (meaning - everyone ELSE's taxes).

We're getting $23.77 BILLION dollars this year from the Fed.

That money comes from the collected taxes of all states, and distributed back out based on need. That's over $2,000 per year, per resident. It covers transportation, public education, Medicaid, community development, and other programs vital to residents.
