Hi, I am a NH transplant in Florida! I am looking for beaches within 2 hours of Orlando to take my dogs to.

Any good recommendations?

Are the beaches in St. John’s County close enough? That would be St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and, if you want something quieter, Crescent. Dogs have to be leashed.

We keep our current golden on a leash, because he’s still young and crazy. Our golden who passed away, we trusted much more. She was such a retriever and loved retrieving in the water. She put on a clinic.

We did have a cop drive by once (4x4’s are allowed on the beach) and ask us to leash our dog. But she never bothered anyone, she was so focused on retrieving.

Honeymoon Island and Ft Desoto in Pinellas County have dog friendly beaches.

Smyrna Dunes Park, at the Northern tip of New Smyrna Beach. Besides being the nicest Beach Town in Orlando's orbit, most of the Downtown restaurants are dog friendly. Leashes are required at the park and on the beach. NSB is under an hour from much of Metro Orlando.

Was just going to mention Honeymoon. I live 10 minutes from there. I go there a lot, and people take their dogs there all the time. One of my favorite beaches. Hidden gem.

That’s my closest beach too. I like it a lot, but the rocks are a bit of a drawback.

I thought the rocks were bad too, until I ventured further down, where apparently they blast sand in from the water to cover the “beach” area to make it smooth. We have been able to play soccer on that side with no worry for rocks.

Yep, the beach itself is okay but swimming there isn’t the best thanks to the rocks. I don’t recall the story behind them but I’m pretty sure they are there now due to someone’s mistake rather then them being natural.

By the way, if you haven’t been to Anna Maria yet you might want to check it out one day. I think they’ve probably got the best beach on the west coast.

The beaches from Palm Coast northward through Marineland and up to Summer Haven in Flagler County are fantastic, clean and unspoiled with few distractions. Very few people if any are at many of the beach access points and if your dog is well-behaved/trained you can probably get away with off-leash in some areas where there is literally no one else on the beach. Weekdays if a possibility is your best bet. It's about an hour and fifteen minutes from the Orlando area.
