$900/mon max rental budget...need 2-bd manufactured home or regular house that allows two small dogs. Is this doable? (We are not picky as long as the place is not bug-infested and the A/C works). Only thing I am worried about is cost of health insurance, rental insurance, and car (liability only) insurance.

West Pasco county is cheap for a reason. Cheap 30 to 50k homes rented out to druggies is the norm. The area looks rundown as well. Stick to the east coast.

Do you have job prospects? marketable skills? I'd go where the work is and worry about the location later unless you like being broke. I'd consider Jacksonville. Large city with lots of employment opportunities but very affordable real estate.

If you're basing the move on perceived cost of living only and placing jobs secondary, that'll be a big mistake. Neither choice is especially known as a "jobs center" so would reconsider places like Jacksonville or Tampa versus those two options.

Agree w/ you as usual. Your about the best poster on this site IMO.

I know nothing about Melbourne so I can't comment on that area but I wouldn't recommend the New Port Richey area at all. Like Kyle mentioned above I'd live in or around Tampa before NPR, chances are your gonna be driving there for work anyway. I grew up in Town n Country, a Tampa suburb that gets a bad rep but to me its not that bad. I would recommend TnC before I would NPR.

They are about the same as being bad. Remember i lived in Danashores since i was born in 1963 until 2004 and saw how bad TNC in many parts just got worse. Homes in NPR are 3 times cheaper and taxes 2 times less so if i had a choice i would pick NPR as for cost of living. Only real diff is the kind of people that make the two areas not that great. And west Pasco really has some winners. Now some areas on the water around TNC are great if you can afford the 500k and up homes.

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT move to Hudson or New Port Richey without seeing it first.

West Pasco is a HELL HOLE. You will absolutely regret it, unless you like trashy ghetto life.

This is not an exaggeration. West Pasco is a hole in the Earth.

If you don't bother a longer commute to Melbourne City Centre, i could suggest Werribee which is located almost halfway between Melbourne and Geelong, and not that far from Port Phillip Bay. When it comes to rent cost, I think it is around 900-1100 per month. I suggest Werribee because it does provide a fair amount of recreational facilities for you kids and also Werribee open range zoo. Is there a chance you will move along your furnitures? Then hiring a removalist in Melbourne or Werribee (minimovers.com.au) is a must to avoid stressful moving. just my thought. cheers mate
