So we've decided to make a habit of taking a family vacation is seems once a summer. Last year we went to Gulf Shores and had a blast. We've decided to try out Navarre Beach this year and are booked for be out there mid June. We'll be staying at Beach Colony, so hopefully I'll be able to walk and fish the pier a few times. Just wanted to see if anyone had suggested on some good restaurants to try out while we were there. Also, does anyone have an suggestions on fishing charters (just inshore/near shore fishing for 1/2 a day). Any other fun things to do around the area besides soak up the beautiful beaches? Thanks ahead for any ideas and input!

It's definitely a quieter area than Gulf Shores is. We like Cactus Flower in Navarre for California-Mexican food.

You probably already know this but just in case someone else who doesn't know visits this area...my only suggestion is try to find about a 1,000,000 SPF sunscreen if you're going to be on that whitey-white sand for more than a few minutes. Believe me, the burn will sneak up on you unlike other beaches.

Thanks for the info! I noticed this last year when we visited Gulf Shores.

Does anyone have suggestions of fishing charters in the area?

Since you're looking for inshore fishing, you might read the reviews for Flat Out:

Thanks for the info, setting up a charter with him now. Any other ideas of activities and restaurants to check out? I don't mind even a 30 minute drive somewhere if its worth it (seafood wise). Not really looking for a good steak restaurant or something I can already get in Dallas.

Definitely go to Pensacola Beach for good seafood:

Casino Beach Grille (at the foot of the fishing pier) and the Grand Marlin (at the foot of the bridge going into Gulf Breeze) are two of my favorites. Everyone will steer you to Peg Leg's but it's always packed and they have mainly fried food. The first two have great atmosphere and food. It's an easy half hour drive along the beach and it will seem much shorter than that because you're driving along the Gulf inside the National Seashore, which is the beach in its natural state (no condos, etc.)...beautiful!

I should have mentioned the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. It is amazing (if you enjoy that type of thing). Make sure to visit the lighthouse while you are there.
