This will be a two-parter folks....

Considering relocating to Northern Florida after retirement, and planning a trip to look around. I'd like to take in from Jax to Pensacola, but I'm wondering how realistic that would be ? I'd have about a week or so to do this . Is this realistic or should this be broken down into separate trips ? If so how many and how should it be broken down ? And should I stick to I 10 or go more the local route, albeit longer ? I'm coming from NY so one trip would be nice... if possible.

Also, what areas/towns should I focus on and which should I just avoid.

I'm looking for a clean, safe, middle-class, family oriented neighborhood, close to shopping, quality healthcare, uncongested with reasonably priced housing and taxes.

It's about five hours total from Jax to Pensacola by Interstate. I'd do it as one trip with segments in Jax, Tallahassee (if an inland area is okay) and then Pensacola-Ft. Walton Beach/Destin. Since the Appalchicola area is probably too remote for you (revisit it on a B&B weekend when you move down here), just stick with I-10 until you get to Crestview, and cut down to US 98 from there to get to Destin-Pensacola and the coast.

It really is a lot of rather dull farmland between the cities save for a few nice state parks and there isn't much beach east of Panama City; best to pass through it as quickly as possible.

Thanks Beachmouse. So it's Jax, Tallahassee, Destin & Pensacola ?
Yes inland is fine, not that much of a beach person. But I do want a descent area.
