Um, in the last decade, state funding for universities has been cut to almost nothing. That's why tuition has skyrocketed at public universities more than private ones. This has happened in many states including FL and CA

That wasn't the talking point. Read again...

Soon enough, small government folks will get their wish as University systems across the board have to jack up tuition as they lose more government funding

Should be fine with the TP'ers I would think.

Try again. I'm not a "Tea Party/GOP" supporter.

And, I'm not going to live on a self-sufficient ranch in Wyoming to eliminate all government reach in my life (as much as I might like to sometimes). I live in the real world. I went to FSU because I grew up a Seminole fan. Going to college was always just expected of me, and I always expected it for myself. I didn't put much thought into it, or I might have done otherwise.

I do not agree with another poster's assertion that I somehow benefit from the government "educating" children. If you believe that what government schools do is "educate", then you are badly mistaken. We have a society full of people who have been successfully "schooled" by the government, but not truly educated.

Take away government subsidies in higher education and having a college degree will actually mean something again. College nowadays is just an extension of high school.

This is the world that our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc created for us. I'm going to do the best I can with what I've been given.

I'm not going to get into a long debate with you because I frankly don't have the energy but your education was partially paid by me and rest of the citizens (you're welcome, by the way). Same with your doctor, lawyer, fireman, police officer, plumber. Your bank deposits are guaranteed with my help. The guy who grows your food gets subsidies and insurance that allow him to continue to farm with my help and the food is delivered to the grocer on roads I helped build. Your self-sufficient Wyoming ranch will be powered by an electrical grid that was paid for and subsidized by me and others and if it ever floods, your government backed flood insurance will help you out. Your livestock will be taken care of by a vet I helped educate. The medicines you'll give them were very possibly developed at a public college with government grants.

Your life as you know it is made possible because of the sacrifices that the citizens do collectively for you.

Assuming you pay taxes of course. 47% of households don't pay federal income taxes (and no, medicare and SS are social insurance/payroll taxes, and do not fund other aspects of the government).

Oh, silly me. If it wasn't for the government, there would be no universities, doctors, lawyers, firemen, police officers, or plumbers. We wouldn't have any food or roads. There would be no electricity and floods would ravage civilization. There would be no veterinarians or medicine. In a nutshell, humans would cease to exist.

This is what you are saying, and it is absolutely absurd.

Yes, silly you!

It seems you are trying to tell us you were unaware the goverment was paying part of your tuition. Maybe that's what's happening to all Florida parents who are sending their kids to public schools.

While I don't agree with financing higher education I do think I benefit from getting those kids "Schooled" as you call it. In my opinion it's education for some, it's schooling for others but at least it keeps them busy.
