My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Florida from CT. We like the idea of warmer weather and that there might be some great buying opportunities.

We do not care about schools but do care about it being safe and a decent if not nice place to live.

So I do not want to sound like a vulture but is there a place in FL that has gotten hit by the economy pretty bad so we could get a great deal on a home thank you so much.

Just about anywhere in Florida...... Where would you like to be? Ocean or Gulf? North, Central ,or South?

Being as you're from CT. I would suggest the East Coast. Vero Beach, Stuart, and the Jupiter area are very nice and far enough south to have great winter weather. But, they're very laid back. If you like more excitement you'll be better off in Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

I appreciate the post but if I never see cold weather again especially snow that would be great. I would like something near the beach if there was some sort of night life that would be great or perhaps a city somewhat near there my limit is around 300k ish for the house and want to get as much house as I can preferably the most depressed I can so at least I can make something back when the market goes up again.

Again, almost anywhere. 300k will get you a hell of a short sale or foreclosure if you have the time. It's best to look around, find a town you like, and rent for a while. You won't have to worry about snow anywhere in Florida. The Northern parts do get freezing temps. for short periods. The far south is more or less tropical, with lush vegetation that wouldn't survive up in Jacksonville. St. Augustine is old, with interesting architecture and a vibe all it's own. It's a big state with a lot to offer. Good luck.

Given this I would highly recommend that you move down and rent for at least 6 months or so before you plop down 300k on a house. The housing market is not going to rocket northward anytime soon so you have time to rent for a bit and find out if a particular area is really to your liking first.
