Our family is looking to transfer down to Florida from expensive and freezing northern Illinois. My husband and I have both been to Florida many times - his aunt lived in Fort Walton Beach and my summers were spent in Naples with my Grandparents as a kid. We have traveled down there many times with our children in the past few years. My husband's job allows us to transfer basically anywhere and we want to be in Florida. I homeschool our kids so not worried about the schools.....they are no picnic up here either. We are looking for a place where you can get a nice house and not pay an arm and a leg. We want to rent at first and don't want to pay more than 850 for a 3 bedroom..... I know they are out there. We are from a smaller town now and would like to continue that kind of living down there. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You might check out Melbourne. It's family-friendly, reasonably priced and offers a lot to do in terms of family activities/recreation. Melbourne, Florida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are loads of places in Florida that could fill your needs. North or South Florida? Coastal or inland? Small town or medium city? And what does your family like to do? I think your budget is a little too low for a decent 3 bedroom home, though.

I see a mobile home in your future with that budget, so perhaps inland would be best.

We currently rent a 2 bedroom on over an acre of land for 750 a month and after looking into the Pace/Milton area as well as parts of Ocala I know it can be done. Budget can be stretched but from what I have seen I can get something decent down there for 850 to 950. Don't want to buy at first but plan on it after a year of being down there.
