My husband has a job opportunity in Key West (I haven't been there since I was a kid) and I have read the threads about it not being particularly kid friendly. My kids are 9 and 13. We are outdoorsy/dive certified/fishing and boating types and don't care about access to chain stores/restaurants, so the remoteness isn't an issue. At this point, we are still interested, but I am curious to know if there are any horseback riding stables on Key West or the next island up where my daughter can take lessons (we don't want the tourist tours). She has been riding for a couple of years and currently barrel races (Western riding), though we don't have a horse and don't imagine that would even be an option for us in the Keys since we are not wealthy. She would be willing to switch to English riding if necessary, but it will break her heart to give up the sport altogether. Honestly, this is the biggest sticking point for me...otherwise I think it is a great opportunity. Any info on the local horse community (if there is one) would be appreciated.

Since land is extremely limited there. Go to google maps I doubt it. I really have no idea but there is very little to no room in the keys not sure where they would ride horses and keep them.

It's been just a few years since my wife and I went to Key West just to say we had been. Will never go back. I'd never raise a family there and I'm a FL native and former 4H equestrian photographer. I didn't see a piece of dirt big enough for an arena when I was there. To bad that job is not on the ridge area of central FL for it is real horse and kid friendly.

Exactly. There is no room for any horses. Homstead/Southern Dade County has plenty of horses but that will be a good 2 hour drive each way at least.

No horse riding options in the keys! This is the one thing I had a hard time giving up when I moved here.
