A lot of trades in our society are dead or dying. So are a lot of other professions. However, you can make a living (not be rich, just make a living) if you are willing to learn. I think you have removed yourself too far from being self-sustainable - now you are going around "looking for jobs" or worse yet, expecting them. Mock all you want...

To set the record straight, if need be, I was born in the Bronx, NY, lived in Brooklyn NY as a child and an adult, been in FL 23 years, 17 of them in Orlando. I've never said I am a native Floridian, if that is what I am suspecting you are surmising.
That explaines why Spring Hill is so desireable.

It does get hot here but I overlook it and just take in the natural beauty down here that is Florida. In southern Ohio I just can't run to the Gulf of Mexico when I want to or watch the palms sway in a breeze or sit on fine white sands like we have here. Instead of complaining about the heat I get out and enjoy it for what it is. Then there are other days when yes, staying home relaxing in the cool air or a pool is just as nice down here.

Some of the very things people find "lacking" will be the very things that draw others here. As a native I stay here because everything that I personally love is here. I don't mind being a little too hot a few months out of the year because I hate cold, and I love the weather here 8 months out of the year. I love the tropical foliage, wildlife, snow white beaches, sparkling Gulf and the architecture. But I totally understand that others may prefer cold and snow and definite seasons, different architecture, etc. It's always about different strokes for different folks.

Personally, I don't really even understand the point of this thread, about why people want to go back "home." Lots of people miss families, or where they grew up or points listed above. To me it is not because Florida is "lacking." This is still the 3rd or 4th most populated state in the country, so obviously more people come to stay than leave. Not really a plus to me, I like a bit less population, personally. But loving it like I do I can't really blame them!

Lastly, I will say people can and do change. What suits when one is young and just out of college may not be the same when in mid-life with kids, and/or then when older. Circumstances change, tastes change, and sometimes one just WANTS a change. Nothing wrong with that. As happy as I am where me and hubby live now, I would never guarantee I will feel the same in 10 or even 5 years. We have a saying: We are never going to move - unless we decide to!

Yes Ken, maybe. It is more desirable to us than Orlando where we spent 17 years. Nice and quiet out here. Peaceful. Close to the Gulf. Nice for hiking, canoeing, the stuff we enjoy. You lived in Aripeka, so you know what I am talking about.
