Hi, my boyfriend recently moved to Clermont, FL with his parents . We do not know much about FL since we are originally from IL. We are both working and our combined income after taxes is about $4000/month. We have about $3000 (zero debt) in the bank. This is what we would like:

1. We would like to be in a liberal area.
2. We would like to spend $700-$1100/month on housing.
3. We would like 600-725 sq feet.
4. We would like to be in the bottom 2/3 of the state.
5. We would like to be near LGBT friendly clubs.
6. We would like to be in an area that is growing.

Any/all opinions about where we should go are welcome!

You need to look at either Broward or Miami Dade County. Broward is the bluest county in the state, but most of South Florida, with some exception, is LGBT friendly.

Most of the older gay crowd is up in Wilton Manors which is a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale while I think most of the younger gay crowd is still in South Beach.

Definitely Wilton Manors. Very blue area, friendlier and more balanced group of people than South Beach. South Beach is a wild town, lots of clubs and young people there (straight and gay), but people there can be very superficial---not the easiest place to make friends.

You might also check out nearby Orlando. North Colonialtown, Lake Ivanhoe, Thornton Park or College Park are nice walkable neighborhoods close to bars, restaurants, shops and galleries. They're all liberal, with a significant LGBT population. I like Lake Ivanhoe in particular, in that it has a couple of LGBT clubs, a cool/funky commercial strip along Orange Avenue and it's a bit quieter in terms of traffic and congestion. It's quite scenic...with several lakes, well kept neighborhoods (some with brick streets) and lots of mature landscaping. You'll find quite a bit in your price range as well, ranging from apartments or condos to small historic bungalows. Good luck!

LAKE WORTH, FL just south of West Palm Beach. Liberal, affordable, fun beach, historic, charming downtown full of resturants, top Gay Pride annual parade 5000+ attendance, close to gay bars in West Palm and Wilton Manor, city manager use to be a man, art is king, new Curtural Concile Center moving there, remodeling historic beach Casino.

Wilton Manor (Wilma) neighborhood in Ft Lauderdale is fun, but to gay to live there all time for me. Orlando is great, but no beach or breezes. Very hot and lots of bugs. Lake Worth is only 3 hour drive form Orlando.

I see young gay couples walking down the street holding hands in Lake Worth. Lake Worth is also a great place to retire. Check out the Cottage resturant Tea Dance every Sunday evening.
