I acquired employment just south of the Grand Canyon NP and am curious about the drive/commute from either aforementioned cities...... I understand that it will take about an hour to an hour and a half from Flagstaff but was curious about the drive from Williams, should I choose to reside there.

Also, I would like to know more about Williams, like apartment rentals (cost, location) in Williams. I've read a few posts regarding living in Flagstaff and it seems rather pricey. I will be earning aprox. 40k annually. Is this enough to live for a single 24 year old in either city? I have driven through this area about 2 years ago and it seemed real nice. Other than that, I have no experience with this area. However, I will be traveling out there on Monday for a face to face and to get a idea of the lifestyle and cost of living.

Any heads up or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oh yea, I am coming from Orlando Florida if that helps

You are in a bind, Tusyan prices could be high. Snow could be deep.
Awhile back they tried to start a subdivison for NPS and locals and it was shot down.
There are places off of hwy 180 towards flag that maybe available.
Going to have to go check things in person I bet.
Apartments are available in Williams just not sure on price range.

Well my choice of words may not have been correct. Just that if you have to come in from Williams in the Winter theres the chance of lots of snow.
From Flag they have closed the 180 because of snowfall.
Normally in the ideal world you live close to where you work. I have worked for the NPS and understand a lot of there people end up driving long distances because of lack of housing.

Default Yes, this is true.

If you dont mind me asking....where did you live when you worked for the NP? Also, how often does the snow fall amount to closing roads up there? I know that might be a subjective question, but like once a season....twice a season?

Im not actually working for the NP. I am just outside at the airport. Not sure if this has a bearing.

Ive also tried to locate Tuysan but no such luck. Where exactly is this place in relation to the NP?

Thanks.

It's Tusayan. And I doubt the road is closed often. It's the main route to GC. They do a pretty good job of keeping up with the roads in Coconino County.

I just posted asking about rentals in Tusayan. Are they few and far between or is it possible for my wife to rent there for 6 months?
