I hunt for FOOD, the hides, and additional parts are extra benefits for me.
Deer meat is one of the healthiest red meat you can eat. Some put it up there as being as healthy as salmon.
Rabbit is also healthy, as well as sheep.
Those are what I hunt, along with quail (feathers are used for craft projects, fishing lures, and cat toys), goose (feathers are used for bedding and pillows), and coyote (those are hunted solely to reduce population, and reduce predator threat to the farm animals.)

Fur might have been useful before people got out of the Cro-Magnon days...I would never own anything with fur, and never have. There are plenty of more humane alternatives...I love my faux-leopard coat and get a lot of compliments on it.

Tell any animal coated in crude oil from an oil spill that those alternatives are humane...or a person killed in one of many conflicts over oil...
I'm also from the south, hunting is apart of our lives. People that have never hunted for food shouldn't be allowed to make such comments. Have you ever seen what they do to the cows before they become a big mac? A .308 is a lot cleaner. ......... Deer is very healthy but not the deer in Fla, I go to Ohio to hunt good deer. Watch "Food Inc." and you'll get it.
Wow! You Googled a Tolstoy line, nice. I guess that gives your comment some validation? Because some dead guy said something cool? People are made to eat meat, fruit, nuts and veggies. If you don't think so then you aren't as smart as your Tolstoy would imply. Please try a little harder next time, quote Rosnak or try quoting something that you've read.
My daughter has a nice warm rabbit fur winter hat. Someday I would like to get a fur hat made also- maybe fox, coyote or bobcat. I am also a collector of animal skulls & pelts (I use them in a presentation I give to elem schools) and I am currently working towards getting my taxidermy lic. So I don't really have a problem with hunting, trapping and the use of fur. I do think that as much of the animal as possible should be used... I make crafts & art with shoulder blades, bones, & claws.
