For some reason, come winter time, my skin does a complete 180 and starts to dry out and peel (on my hands) really bad. It get so dry it itches all over. I read good things about black soap and shea butter, I have ordered a sample pack from www.hosiaonline.com and am waiting for it. I have tried everything under the sun and now am using vaseline to help my dry skin. That stuff is so toxic, but what can I do? I am willing to give the real shea butter and black soap combo a try, but want to hear PERSONAL experiences. Thanks in advance
vaseline probably isnt the best idea....it'll clog your pores and cause you to break out or have an irritation over time.
ive never used black soap, but have used lotions and soap that had shea butter in it and that worked.
I also have used Aveeno anti-itch lotion and have loved that!
I've never used black soap, but shea butter is the ONLY moisturizing agent that does jack for my skin. It absorbs well and isn't greasy. I usually get Palmer's, no point in spending a boatload for it.
I'm not sure about the black soap but I have used to shea butter for a long time and it works great. I can only use the unrefined shea butter though, the others can have emollients that can clog your pores.

So you would say it works for winter skin? Music to my ears. Thanks.
Pure shea butter (not the lotions with shea butter at the end of the ingredient list) works wonders on dry skin, especially the redness, drying, and cracking that kids get from a runny nose, or licking their lips in the cold.
I also find that the type of soap you use on a daily basis makes a difference too. I've switched to the Kiss My Face brands of soap. Five days straight of Dove wrecks havoc on my skin.
I know a number of health care workers who swear on Eucerin for dry/cracked hands.
I use black soap from Lush and swear by it, but my face is oily and I like it because it helps tone that down.
For moisturizer, I swear by jojoba oil, particularly in the winter. Supposedly it's molecularly similar to the oil of your face so when you put it on, it absorbs quickly. I normally use it at night but if you have a dryer face, you could probably use it during the day too. It doesn't leave my face oily gross like shea butter does. A good friend of mine uses coconut oil (and always smells good) which she loves, but I can't vouch for that.
