Agree with most others. Never wore 'cause they hurt. The Old Navy, 2/$5 and surprisingly the Wal Mart $2.00 pair, are the most comfy for me.
To the OP, I would try and take them back. I don't believe in a break in period. Either they fit or they don't. I know what you mean about the cute factor thought. Some of the cutest ones hurt the most, so unfortunately or fortunately, I won't be wearing them!

If they are leather, they do definitely need to be broken in. Otherwise, it can take a few hours or a day of wearing them to break your feet into the sandal, so to speak. When I sold shoes I usually advised people to wear them inside for a few hours, by then you can tell what's hurting and your feet may or may not adapt.
After decades of wearing flipflops.....buying the cheapest ones with the rubber between your toes are the most comfortable. Leather, bamboo, or whatever else you find out there will irritate the crap out of your toes. This is especially true is really hot weather.

I agree and have found the same thing. The pair with the issue was more expensive and I had a feeling there would be a problem. I only had them on for less than two hours and they were killing me. I'm going to try a few things to help and if not I'll just return them.
Ouch, ouch, ouch. Maybe you need a different pair of flip flops. You don't want to build up ugly thick skin between your toes.
Ditto. I simply don't buy those that are uncomfortable - which is roughly about 95% of them. I don't know about others, but I'm not that big of a masochist...
