But not including tennis shoes or your basic flip flops. Cute sandels or something like that. I am going on vacation to Europe and we will be doing a tremendous amount of walking!
I find many of the recommended "comfortable shoes" very ugly and would not be caught dead in them. I avoid wearing ugly shoes. I especially would avoid wearing ugly shoes in Europe, even if they are very comfortable.
Or, stick with a basic, well-made ballet flat or loafer which tend to be classic, yet comfortable (e.g. Cole Haan, Stuart Weitzman or Coach as another poster mentioned).
I have occasionally seen a Born shoe that is attractive (some sandals), but I've had to search through some ugly ones in order to find it. But Born is incredibly comfortable.
If its not comfortable its outta here. I can't wear heals of any kind except maybe a wegied inch so all that line is out. Straps digging into your foot hurt. no thanks. I like the earthtype sandles the summer with no teeny straps, no plastic against bare feet, and spongy bottomes, but when its not going to be outside will wear lightweight flat boots even then.
I couldn't afford tall Uggs this winter but discovered Tall Bearclaw boots and LOVE them. I'm still wearing the 'everyday' pair and its not cold. Soft, supportive and comfortable. Personally I love boots and pretty much any boot is more interesting than as shoe so I'm happy. With the insect live in my yard, I wear them outside in summer too.
I simply don't get why anyone would be in agony over shoes or wear something that wasn't comfortable for fashion. Take me as I am or forget about it.
A pair of Italian leather sandals I bought in about 1970 and paid $7.95 for. (A huge amount of money to spend for a pair of sandals back then.) I loved them so much I re-soled them myself with leather I bought in sheets from Tandy Leather. I did that at least four times before they finally fell apart.

I have worn my knees out and worked in library reference which is just about the same as needing track shoes and once had two pairs of cute crisscross sandals from SAS that were work horses. Easy Spirit shoes are very comfortable too.
Here is something for you to think about. I know sandals are really cute, but if you will be taking your feet to tourist places, I would want something that is enclosed such as sneakers. I have found that on trips, I like for my feet to be clean much more than pretty. Of course there are times when it is clean enough to wear the pretty sandals too.
