Definitely not at a nice restaurant.

I did buy some (the ones in the top row) but they are at least twice as big as what I'm looking to wear. Apparently magnetic earrings have to be a certain size in order for the magnets to stay in place.

I liked how they looked although a bit too big. I wouldn't wear that size in public though.

Yes they are flip flops, but I figured they are a certain type of sandal.

Not suitable for casual public appearance, but OK on the beach, pool and recreational activities.
This is where I get confused. I thought there were low end flip flops and higher end flip flops (typically leather) that can be dressed up a bit. I'm no expert by any means so just an assumption on my part.

Here are some nice sandals for all occasions: (yes, pay attention for occasion - beach, sports, hiking, city)
Remember that in general, sandals are not considered to be business casual footwear.

How to wear sandals:

Thanks for the links!

Some of those sandals look good and some not so good IMO. Fisherman sandals were popular at one time (I think?) but don't see them much anymore. The Metro Slip-on Sandals and Red Tape Toe Ring Sandals look unique!

I would never think about wearing sandals to work. I have debated which occasions are appropriate. Some activities I have in mind (other than the beach):

Running errands/grocery shopping
BBQs
Family gatherings
Larger gatherings (let's say graduation party)
Eating Out

Be aware that novelty earrings might be unsuitable for a workplace
Awesome guide!

Not really looking for anything too flashy. Work is definitely a concern though. There are no rules against it but I'd rather not risk offending anyone, even though there are managers with tattoos.

I'm leaning toward 3 or 4mm. Silver, black, or diamond stud CZ.

Maybe something like these:

Ok cool. I don't go to high end restaurants too often anyway.

There is nothing weird about a guy getting a guy makeover. Some guys need to start wearing grown up clothes, get a good haircut and clean themselves up. A decent pair of shoes or sandals doesn't hurt.

Men can get man makeover anytime. It's funny but I usually notice it when their wife picks out nice suits for them.

My wife found a picture of how she wanted her hair cut 5 or 6 years ago and had kept it in (where else??) her purse ever since. We've both been getting our haircuts at a cosmetology school here in our town for $9 each and have had no complaints. The ladies like going by the picture.

Probably unpopular opinion, especially in the US, but I would say that there are only a few scenarios in which wearing shorts is acceptable on grown men:
Around the house, at the pool/beach, while doing any exercise or physical activity, and a casual outdoor special event (i.e. music festivals and parades), park gatherings, backyard parties etc.
Metro casuals wear long pants.
That's it.

There are many cooling fabrics suitable even in tropics.

The usual custom is that a boy graduates to trousers around eight years old...lol

Of course most men couldn't care less about clothing etiquette, but those who do care ^^^ that's it.
Obviously, you care, OP.

Few rules:
Men with slim bodies are complemented best by slim-fitting shorts. Avoid baggy shorts as they will make your torso and legs seem disproportionate.

Men carrying a little more weight around the midsection need to avoid slim-fitting shorts. Slim shorts will only emphasize your stomach.

Pleated shorts should be avoided.

Never wear shorts that fall up to your knees because longer shorts (like Bermuda shorts) will make your legs look short and your stomach big.

I was thinking along these lines.

Of course work requires pants for most jobs.

Going to a fancy restaurant or a format event would call for pants. I can't say that I'm in those situations often.

Good point.
I will admit that I have typically worn cargo shorts but made sure not to buy that ones that are baggy.
Looking to switch to flat front shorts.
